Executive Director & Founder
James is the Founder and Executive Director of Drones Without Borders / Drones Sans Frontières. He brings over 13 years of experience and skills to the forefront in helping our organisation grow and succeed.
James is a Certified Technical Security Professional (CTSP), Registered Independent Security Consultant (RISC), Registered Risk Practitioner (RRP), and Chartered Manager (CMgr), who formally founded Drones Without Borders in 2019. James has been undertaking pro bono consultancy in stabilisation, safety, and security as the Executive Director of the charity stabilisation.eu since 2007 — all in parallel to a successful career in international affairs and diplomacy, including with the OSCE, EU, NATO, OPCW, government, civil society, and the private sector.
The idea for Drones Without Borders came about during his time as a Technical Monitoring Officer / UAV Operator with the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, deployed east of the Contact Line in the non-government controlled areas. During his time in eastern Ukraine, he accrued over 100 hours operational flying time on mini and mid-range UAVs. Since then he has continued to fly with Drones Without Borders, as well as direct and manage all aspects of the organisation.
James has a wealth of proven practical experience of managing and leading the delivery of development and stabilisation interventions in disaster and conflict affected states, having worked in the most difficult security and development environments, including both emergency response and long-term programmatic roles.
James has received numerous honours and decorations for his charitable and humanitarian work, as well as bravery in saving life. For a full list and for a more detailed biography, please visit James' profile on stabilisation.eu
